Privacy notice
How Abbott's Vocational Driver Training collects, uses and protects your personal data.
Last updated: 2 October 2026
Who we are
This notice is issued by Stuart Abbott, trading as Abbott's Vocational Driver Training ("AVDT", "I", "me"), a sole-trader instructor business based in Devon providing MHE operator training, LGV and PCV practical driving training (categories C1, C, C+E, D1, D and D+E), D1 minibus driver training, and event water safety cover. AVDT is registered with the Information Commissioner's Office, registration number ZC212008.
For any question about this notice or your data, contact info@avdt.co.uk or 07807 395913.
What data I collect
Depending on how you deal with AVDT, I may collect:
- Enquiry and booking details: name, company, email address, phone number, and the content of any message you send me, including through the contact form on this website.
- D1 minibus licence check: if you complete the check on this website, your name, email address, phone number, the type of driver you are (if you choose to say), your answers to the questions (whether you passed your car test before or after 1997, how far you've got with the D4 medical and provisional licence application, and your experience of larger vehicles), and the training route the check recommends. I don't ask for or receive any medical results through the check.
- MHE candidate training records: name, contact details, date of birth, and information needed to confirm a candidate is fit to be trained, such as a fitness-to-operate or medical declaration and any relevant prior certificates.
- LGV and PCV candidate training records: name, contact details, licence category being trained for, and provisional or full licence details passed to me by the training school so I can deliver a training day and, where relevant, report progress back to the school.
- Course and certification records: attendance, theory and practical test results, pass/fail decisions, and certificate numbers issued.
- Training school details: the business and contact details of driving/training schools I work with, and any candidate information they pass to me to arrange a training day.
- Site visit information: details shared as part of arranging or carrying out on-site training, such as site address and site contact details.
Why I use it, and my legal basis
- To respond to enquiries and arrange bookings — necessary to take steps at your request before entering into a contract, and to perform that contract once agreed.
- To follow up on your D1 minibus licence check — based on your consent, which you give by ticking the box before you see your results. I use your answers to contact you about the training that suits you. You can withdraw consent at any time by emailing info@avdt.co.uk.
- To deliver and certify MHE training — necessary to perform the training contract, and to meet health & safety obligations I'm required to follow.
- To deliver LGV and PCV training days for a training school — necessary to perform my contract with that school, and to give accurate feedback on a candidate's readiness for their DVSA practical test.
- To keep records for membership and insurance purposes — necessary for my legitimate interests in running a compliant training business, and to meet legal obligations to AITT and my insurers.
- Fitness-to-operate or medical declarations — this is special category health data. I only collect what's needed to confirm someone can safely be trained, and rely on the fact that this is necessary for health and safety purposes connected with training delivery.
Who I share it with
I don't sell or trade your data. I may share limited information with:
- AITT, where membership, audit or certificate verification requires it.
- The training school you're booked through, where I'm delivering an LGV or PCV training day on their behalf — for example, feedback on a candidate's readiness for their test.
- DVSA, where required as part of the practical test process.
- My insurers, if needed to support a claim or as part of a routine audit.
- Google, for website visit and advertising measurement (Google Analytics and Google Ads), only if you've accepted the cookie banner.
- Formspree, which delivers messages from the contact form and the D1 minibus licence check to my email inbox. Formspree stores submissions on servers in the United States and relies on the UK/EU Standard Contractual Clauses to protect data transferred there. See Formspree's privacy policy.
- Service providers who support the business (for example email or accounting tools), only to the extent needed for them to provide that service.
- Any authority I'm legally required to share information with.
How long I keep it
Enquiry details, including D1 minibus licence check answers, that don't lead to a booking are kept only as long as needed to respond to you and follow up on your enquiry, and are then deleted from my inbox and from Formspree. MHE candidate training and certification records are kept for as long as AITT membership and my insurers require, to support certificate validity and audit checks. LGV and PCV candidate and training-day records are kept for as long as needed to support the training school's own records and my insurance requirements. Records are securely deleted once they're no longer needed for these purposes.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you can ask me to:
- Confirm what personal data I hold about you, and provide a copy of it.
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Delete your data, where I'm not required to keep it for membership, insurance or legal reasons.
- Restrict or object to certain uses of your data.
To use any of these rights, email info@avdt.co.uk. If you're not satisfied with my response, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

The contact form and the D1 minibus licence check send what you enter to info@avdt.co.uk through Formspree (see "Who I share it with" above). Nothing you enter is stored on this website itself, and the check doesn't use cookies to remember your answers.
